Fulmars - Observation 8 (30/01/2021)

Updated: May 16, 2021

13.45-14.15

Weather: Temp: 5 C; wind 15 mph NE. Intermittent rain.

Observations:

I saw a pair of Fulmars perched on nest site 250 m east of the Marina. This is the second time I have seen Fulmars (previously just one) at this location (about 800m from the main colony further east, at Ovingdean). They were extremely difficult to spot as they were very high up the cliff; I was alerted to them by their distinctive call. As far as I could see there were no other Fulmars between this pair and the main colony 800m further west. These two Fulmars seem to have formed an outlier nest all on their own.

At the main site (Ovingdean) of the colony I saw ca. 6 birds, mostly flying on and off the cliffs for short flights, with one bird seen perched on a nest site
