On the way back from my Mum's in Rottingdean I stopped at the pond to see how the two Moorhen chicks were doing. At first I couldn't find them and I was a little concerned that they had been eaten by foxes, as their nest is not on the island built to keep the ducks safe from foxes, but in the reed beds; but they were safe, and in their nest. There nest is quite a way from the pond banks so hopefully they'll be safe. I saw one of the chicks go for an independent swim of about one foot from the reed bed their nest is in. I saw one of the parent birds feed a chick be regurgitating food; but I also saw that that chick eat some weed itself that it foraged.
