My Public Transport (Low Carbon) Butterfly Year 2022. Thirty-Seven Species by foot, bus and train.

My Public Transport (Low Carbon) Butterfly Year 2022, from an Orange Tip in April to mating Long Tailed Blues in August.

This Butterfly Year I saw 37 species. These photos are the records of the first time I saw each species across the year; mostly they are not the best photographs of these species that I took this year!

I travelled only by train and/or bus and foot to see these butterflies, except the Adonis Blue, Common Blue, Large White and Long-Tailed Blues, which I saw just by walking to Bevendean Down and Whitehawk Hill (both in Brighton) from my house.

Most of these butterflies were seen in my home county, Sussex, but some of these butterflies were seen in Hampshire, Surrey and Essex. All of these butterflies were seen on day trips.

1 Orange Tip 19.04.22 Newdigate Brickworks Nature Reserve, nr. Crawley, Surrey Newdigate Brickworks | Surrey Wildlife Trust (photo: 20.05.22 Bevendean Down NR, Brighton, East Sussex). This the only “cheat” photo. The photo I took of my first Orange Tip, on 19.04.22, at Newdigate Brickworks NR, is completely unrecognizable as a butterfly, so I have used the Orange Tip photo I took on 20.05.22 at Bevendean NR.
